All the
programs will be implemented in the following selected blocks in three districts in
the State of Chhattisgarh:

The programs
will be implemented in two phases-
-
The first phase is called the pilot phase of approximately three years,
during which the program activities has been undertaken 114 natural
villages.
-
The second phase will be a
scaling up phase of about five years, which will complete the
Program outreach in 750 natural villages of the
Program Area with about fifty one thousand beneficiaries.

The activities of the TDS to empower
tribal villages can be broadly categorized into
two basic categories-
|
A.
GRASS-ROOT
EMPOWERMENT AND TECHNICAL
CAPACITY BUILDING COMPONENT
Notification
and
Empowerment of the GS, Tribal population, especially women and other marginal
groups, through awareness raising on Tribals and women's
rights, and specifically as under:

 Explaining project concept to villagers |
-
Broad based
awareness-creation on tribal rights, as
espoused by the Panchayati Raj Legislation and
on Gender & Equity issues.
-
Legal and managerial strengthening training
shall be conducted in all villages,
through orientation training in legal
literacy, program planning, implementation and
management.
-
A legal defense fund shall be set up to assist the tribal population in defending its rights.

Technology generation through Farmer's Field
Schools (FFSs). Support to formal research
institutions and state agricultural universities

Community Based Forest Management System:
Promoting community based Forest Management so as
to ensure forest development in keeping with needs of
the community and establishment of Community Forest
Management Fund (CFMF) therefore:

 Collection of NTFP by tribes |

Establishment
of nurseries and on-site nursery research.
Provision of group farm forestry activities
including the establishment of trees, bamboo,
medicinal plants and sisal plants.

Support to the processing and marketing of
NTFPs (Non-Timber Forest Products)
including action research/studies.
-
Inputs, credit, and technical support shall be
provided for the establishment of
agro-forestry plots.
